Located just 35 minutes from Brisbane’s CBD, literally on the doorstep of Springfield, Woogaroo Forest is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including 130 native species of birds, as well as endangered plants, koalas, platypus, gliders, echidnas and more.

It is under threat.

Join the Movement!

The Woogaroo ecosystem, spanning 450 hectares, is under threat of almost complete clearing through development.

Recently, over 300 community members gathered to protest for its preservation, and we invite you to get involved.

Why It Matters

Australia’s wildlife is in crisis, and as veterinarians, we are deeply concerned. Our country leads the world in mammal extinction and ranks second in biodiversity loss. Deforestation across Australia is occurring at an alarming rate—an area equivalent to the MCG cleared every 86 seconds.

It is time for this to stop.

Preserving 450 hectares of spectacular local habitat will provide a safe haven for plants and animals, ensuring they can thrive and reproduce for generations to come. It is a crucial opportunity for local conservation.

Taking A Stand

The Greater Springfield Veterinary Group stands with the community and the Save Woogaroo Forest Group Inc in advocating for the protection of Woogaroo Forest. If these developments move forward, the sustainability and future of the forest and its wildlife will be severely compromised.

A local resident of 35 years, and owner of GS Vets’ group, Dr. Jeannet Kessels, powerfully addressed a recent public event about the potentially devastating impacts of development on local wildlife. You can read her speech here.

Key points:

  • Since Jeannet’s childhood, 70% of global wildlife has vanished, underscoring the urgent need for conservation.
  • Clearing Woogaroo Forest will disrupt local wildlife populations, affecting their social structures, food sources, and breeding grounds. We owe it to future generations to protect these irreplaceable natural spaces.
  • We must find ways to coexist with wildlife rather than displacing them.
  • Woogaroo Forest allows us to connect with nature, enhance our well-being, and appreciate Australia’s unique biodiversity. This is great for everyone’s mental health and enjoyment.

Dr Jeannet and the GS Vets’ team are fully committed to preserving Woogaroo Forest.
