Lead Veterinary Nurse (Full-Time)

Are you a dynamic professional with a genuine care for people as well as a passion for animals and our industry?  Can you pivot easily and reprioritise in an ever-changing environment?  We’re looking for a dedicated experienced veterinary nurse with the ability to multitask and coordinate a team, while delivering exceptional care to pets in a fast-paced environment.

Your responsibilities as a lead nurse will extend beyond clinical duties. You will play an instrumental role in supporting our Nurse & Patient Care Manager to contribute to the overall success of our team and liaise closely with our lead veterinarian to ensure the smooth operation of our hospital on a day-to-day basis.

Role Responsibility:

  • Day-to-day nursing duties.
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and procedures.
  • Monitor patients undergoing medical/surgical treatment and identifying when a change in care is required.
  • Maintain surgical and treatment areas in line with infection control policies.
  • Provide compassionate nursing care to hospitalised animals.
  • Provide education and support to pet owners.
  • Contribute to a clean and organised environment within the clinic.
  • Collaborate with the veterinary team to ensure seamless patient care.

In addition, as a Lead Nurse you will:

  • Assist the Nurse & Patient Care Manager in supervising and mentoring the wider nursing team.
  • Arrange maintenance of medical equipment and regular ordering through a variety of suppliers.
  • Ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly by maintaining a cohesive team working style and identifying when a change in workflow is required.
  • Encourage and uphold healthy work habits through forward planning and clear communication.
  • Work with the Nurse & Patient Care Manager to develop and update hospital policies and procedures.
  • Continually uphold the core values of Greater Springfield Veterinary and encourage other staff to do the same.

 

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Certificate IV or equivalent.
  • Flexibility to work 30 to 38 hours per week with a variety of shifts between 7am and 9pm, and 2 weekends out of 4.
  • Strong surgical, medical, and practical nursing skills.
  • Compassion for animals and a genuine desire to provide excellent client service.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to have difficult conversations.
  • A focus on continued growth.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a high level of emotional maturity.
  • A team mentality and positive attitude.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and software, experience with Ezyvet, Smartflow, and IDEXX Machines is highly desirable.
